Our history
Founder
Alexandre Brisson, better known in the artistic and percussion as Alexton, was born in Montreal to a Quebec father and a Bolivian/Peruvian mother. His passion for music was noticed from an early age.
At the age of 12, he moved to South America for a year with his family. It was there that he began his first training in drums, which he would perfect upon his return to Quebec for many years.
He studied in the Professional Music Program at Vanier College. He was the drummer for the Zorté Latin-Fusion band, with whom he gave numerous presentations in Montreal and Toronto. He was also part of the Bolivian folk dance group Kollasuyo and participated in several performances in Quebec and Mexico.
He has followed African, Brazilian, Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Cuban percussion formations in Montreal and Cuba. In 2012, he was the winner of the emerging talent competition at the Festival International de Percussions à Longueuil.
Saya
In 2011, Alexandre founded his own company of percussion workshops. To date, he has given more than 6,000 workshops, particularly in Quebec schools and daycares.
In addition to training offered in schools, CPEs and day care centers, Alexandre's services have been solicited in the programming of many major events. Whether in the context of performances or the animation of percussion workshops at festivals, shows, fairs, congresses, weddings or private parties, the know-how and contagious energy of Alexandre and his team will make you live an extraordinary experience by inviting you to a percussive journey in the world of percussion!
Origin
Saya refers to a folkloric dance of African origin from the Yungas region of Bolivia performed by an Afro-Bolivian community.
The colors of Saya Percussion, red, yellow and green, are those of the Bolivian flag, the home country of the mother of Alexandre Brisson, founder of the company.
